Piazza Guglielmo Marconi
Always visible.

Piazza Guglielmo Marconi was designed as the central nucleus of the new development in which the Universal Exhibition of Rome (EUR) was to take place in 1942, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the fascist revolution. At the centre is the Stele of Marconi, commissioned to the sculptor Arturo Dazzi from Carrara in 1939. It is 45 meters high and consists of huge marble blocks and 92 reliefs in four rows, which celebrate the invention of the radio and the figure of the great Italian scientist. Work had been interrupted when Italy entered the war in 1940 and the stele was only finished and inaugurated in 1959, when the new sports facilities in the EUR district for the 1960 Olympic Games were near completion.
