By continuing his journey to Rome Saint Paul went through the territory of Castrimeonium (today Marino), placed on a small highland that dominates the valley.

Via Appia Nuova, km 20.800. About 150 m before the crossroad with Vicolo del Divino Amore
Always visible.

At km 20.800 of Via Appia Nuova the landscape is exactly identical to the old Roman way, on the right you can see Torraccio, the cement made nucleus of a great tower tomb. In this place on the left side of the road there was the small town of Bovillae, according to an ancient tradition a colony of Alba Longa. This is the territory of Frattocchie, so called because of the bushes (“fratte”) that were covering the ruins of Bovillae. Today this town is not well preserved but saint Paul could see it in its flourishing shape. Some years before his passage, in 14 A.D., the corpse of Emperor Augusto was laid inside the Roman circus of Bovillae before his solemn funeral.

Viale della Repubblica
Always visible.

About 2,2 km away, at the crossroad of Appia Nuova and Viale della Repubblica, the modern road is far from the ancient Appian Way path, that is to be found as a parallel on the left. At the left of the crossroad, after ca. more than 100 m, on the right you can see a part of the original paved Appian Way, on which Saint Paul walked, knowing that he was now very close to Rome.
