A miraculous event with the intercession of Filippo Neri took place here on 16 March 1583. At the time, the fourteen year old Paolo Massimo, one of the sons of Prince Fabrizio Massimo and Lavinia de’ Rustici lived here. After two months of fever, the boy went into agony. Filippo Neri, a family friend, who was celebrating Mass in San Girolamo, was sent for. The monk, who had arrived at the bedside when the boy was already dead, embraced him, sprinkled holy water and prayed his name. Paolo opened his eyes, spoke a for a few minutes and confessed, saying that dying had not been painful because he was glad to join his mother and sister Elena, who had died a few days before, in Heaven. Then he passed away.
