In 1586, the church of Santa Maria Maddalena was assigned to San Camillo de Lellis, who made it the headquarters of the order of the Camillians. Dating back to the 18th century, it is one of the best examples of Baroque and Rococo art in Rome, as shown by the elegant Sacristy. In 1614, Settimia de Nobili donated to San Camillo, still alive, a painting of the Madonna and blessing Child, which was placed in the tribune of the main altar. The Madonna, a seventeenth-century replica of the Madonna Hodegetria of Santa Maria del Popolo, is wrapped in a cloak edged with gold and holding her Son who blesses with the Greek gesture, joining the thumb and ring finger. The painting took the name of “Salus Infirmorum” or Mary of Health, who is worshipped by the Camillians, skilled in the care of the sick, because of the miraculous healing of the donor.
