Taddeo Zuccari frescoed the Frangipani chapel in San Marcello al Corso with the Stories of St. Paul. The frescoes took about eight years to complete, from 1558 to 1566, because the many commissions he received meant that he was repeatedly forced to interrupt his work. A number of elements typical of the taste of the Counter-Reformation, such as the choice of the oblique angle view, the dynamic concatenation of gestures of the characters and the definition of space using bold glimpses through the architecture can be found in the frescoes. In addition to these, Zuccari also painted the altarpiece depicting the Conversion of St. Paul. The painting was carried out on slate, the resistance of which symbolised perpetuity in anticipation of the celebrations of the Jubilee of 1600.
