Displayed in the church of Sant’Antonio dei Portoghesi (St. Anthony of the Portuguese), the monument was carved by Canova in 1806 in memory of the Count Souza Holstein, Portuguese Ambassador in Rome. The composition is very similar to that used for the monument to Giovanni Volpato: on the lift is a column with a bust of the deceased, opposite a woman crying with her head in her hands and elbows on her knees, completely covered by a sheet, in an air of great sadness, derived from classical Greek style. A commemorative inscription is on the rectangular base of the slab.
