The Villa of the Quintiles is the best preserved greatest and more extended residential complex of Roman suburbia. Initially the villa was owned by the Quintiles brothers, that were found guilty of a failed conspiracy towards emperor Commodus. The Emperor ordered their execution by confiscating their properties. The great architecture, the high level of decorations and the richness of the here employed materials are a clear evidence of the imperial intervention. You had access to the villa through the New Appian Way, where a huge nymphaeum is still visible from the road. Through an immense garden you could reach the vast bath, the public rooms and the private area. Everything here is fantastically preserved. On the New Appian Way you can see the actual entrance of the archaeological site, and here you also see an Antiquarium with sculptures and precious architectural parts.
